Gold Medal Olympiast and a Snorer

Shaquille O’ Neal single handedly defeated many opponents during his NBA and Olympic career, but it wasn’t until his sleep study results recommended a CPAP that he defeated snoring. Until Shaq’s girlfriend Nikki “Hoopz” Alexander asked ”What is a sleep study?”, Shaq had never taken action to stop his snoring problem.

The At-Home Sleep Study – An Alternative to the “Lab”

Written by Manny Erlich. Posted in Blog, Sleep Center

Most people cringe when they hear the phrase, “sleep study” – no way I’m going to get one is the typical reaction, even if they know they might benefit.  So why is this?  What prevents them from moving forward?  Why are they afraid to ask their doctor?  And even if they do, and their doctor recommends a sleep study, and they know it might help identify an issue that can diagnose a sleep disorder such as snoring, sleep apnea or other dangerous health conditions, why are they so reluctant to go?

However, there is an alternative.  Candidates for a sleep study don’t realize that often times they can undergo an at-home sleep study right in the comfort of their own home – in their own bed!

Could a Snore Room Have Saved Tom and Katie?

Written by Manny Erlich. Posted in Blog, In The News

Is the TomKat breakup really about Scientology and Suri? Or is the real culprit Tom’s snoring?

I have a theory about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.  It’s been reported that their breakup was over differences about Scientology and raising little Suri.  I don’t think that was the case at all.  I believe it’s because Tom snores like a jumbo jet taxiing for take-off.  Katie simply had enough.  She couldn’t take it anymore.  Why in the world do you think they had a snore room in their house?

On a more serious note, snore rooms are big business.  Why?  Because 70-90 million people in the U.S. snore — maybe more.  So it’s really no surprise that people will go to any lengths to get some rest after being kept up all night by the snorer they live with.

Flying with Sleep Apnea: Taking Your CPAP is a Challenge

Written by Manny Erlich. Posted in Blog, Sleep Disorders

For people with sleep apnea, traveling just got a bit more difficult (as if it wasn’t enough already!).

The new rules for TSA screening took effect on August 4, 2007. How did these new rule effect frequent flyers with sleep apnea conditions?

The government rules state large electronic equipment such as video cameras, DVD players, laptops and (yes) CPAP machines must be removed from carry-on luggage and placed in bins. This a major nuisance and inconvenience for business travelers traveling only with carry-ons  and also have a laptop.

Pretty simple concept, right?  Stop your loud snoring and you might get lucky.

Yes, you might actually improve your sex life.  After all, who wants to be sleeping with a snoring partner? Like you need me to tell you that snoring and sex lives are directly related?  My guess is: if you snore, then you already know the answer.

More and more couples are finding themselves sleeping in separate rooms all the time.  Why?  Because one of them is the snoring partner. Sleeping in separate rooms does not exactly lead to an intimate sex life – or sex at all, for that matter.

Obesity And Sleep Disorders Increasing In Parallel

Over the past five years, the sleep-clinic industry has expanded at an average annual rate of more than 13?percent, totaling $5.8 billion in revenue this year. As many would suspect, obesity is a major reason for such growth.
